Reconciliation After Rifts
Recently I read a news article about life after divorce, released by Agence-France Presse (AFP). It spoke about how couples who are contemplating divorce can save their marriage if at all they wish to do such a thing. And the advice and service given in the article comes from none other than India, the country whose tradition and social civilization date back to a very long time. One out of a hundred marriages ends in divorce in India, whereas in the case of the USA it is one in two. Canada is proximal to the US geographically as well as culturally. So it is very much probable that the rate of divorce in Canada is proximal to America’s as well.
The article speaks about a travel agency which has stumbled upon a novel concept called ‘divorce tourism’. What exactly does this divorce tourism mean? Well, though the rate of divorce in India has been remarkably low, a lot of people are getting divorces there, of late. Keeping in mind the adverse effect it may have on the divorcees’ lives as well as the society, the travel agency has come up with the idea of sending such couples to exotic tourist locations so that they can spend time alone and try to mend one another’s broken hearts. On a much serious note, is the claim made by the travel agency that this kind of a travel really true?
Yes, according to me, journeys to distant places and long breaks are truly capable of bringing up reconciliation among couples who have parted ways. How does this work? First of all, the couple gets a lot of alone time. This gives them the much needed opportunity to know well about one another. They can talk among themselves more openly and in a clear state of mind. Troubles caused by in-laws etc can be discussed upon and resolved in a smooth manner. However, this holds good to the Indian family setup and the people living there. Would such travel plans benefit people who are thinking of taking divorce in Canada? I guess they would.
India is a far away place for Canadians. So, success in this kind of divorce solution can be expected only if the couple goes to India, sees the strong family values and bonding there, compares it to theirs and implements them in their lives. This may sound too far fetched but we will be able to understand that there is an underlying truth in this statement if we look at it with a deeper insight. Divorce in Canada will plummet only if people take it seriously that it’s their duty to see to that the family does not split and go in different paths.
